The Mount Southington Ski Patrol is part of the National Ski Patrol.

Patrollers are volunteers; there is no pay for patrolling.  Patrollers patrol at their area of registration only, except in unusual circumstance.  Patrollers do receive benefits and discounts through the National Ski Patrol and Mount Southington Ski area.

To become a candidate or transfer into the Mount Southington Ski Patrol:

After reading this information, complete the online form below and click “submit.”  Our New Member Advisor will contact you to arrange an appointment to evaluate your skiing and riding ability here at Mount Southington.

Upon a successful evaluation you will be eligible to enroll in the National Ski PatrolOutdoor Emergency Care (First Aid) and CPR-AED course.  This course is held once a year; beginning in late August.  It is usually held on two evenings each week from 7pm to 10pm ending around the beginning of December.  The cost if the course is is approximately $80.  Applicants with current advanced medical training (EMT, Paramedics, Nurses, Doctors, etc) may qualify for a bridge course.  After successful completion of the first aid/CPR-AED course you will be required to pay a registration fee to become a member of the National Ski Patrol.  Once this is completed, you will become a member of the Mount Southington Ski Patrol, spending the remainder of the ski season on Sunday mornings, learning Patrol ski manuevers, rescue toboggan handling, the realities if ski patrol life, and required duty scheduling.

Early in March, a final evaluation including skiing skills, patroller skills, and toboggan handling is conducted.  Upon successful completion of that evaluation, you will upgraded to a full member of the National Ski Patrol.

After your initial “Candidate” year (noted above) annual refreshers to maintain proficiency in all skills (First Aid, CPR-AED, Ski and Toboggan handling) is required.
